It’s the Summer Fayre and Scarecrow Hunt this Saturday, 4th July. Pick up your Scarecrow Hunt Clue Sheet from the Registration Desk (see map) from 1pm. The Fayre runs from 2 until 4.30pm.
Highlights this year include the Fancy Dress Parade at 3pm with a prize for the best dressed Children’s Book Character, Running Races at 3.30pm and the Balloon Race at 4.30pm.
In between, pick up a hotdog and a Pimms at the bar and barbecue, test your skills in the Penalty Shoot Out, browse for a bargain at the book stall and enjoy games including Splat the Rat, Hook a Duck and Tin Can Alley.
See you Saturday!
A huge thank you to all these local businesses who have kindly sponsored a Scarecrow this year:
Tickets are now on sale for our annual ladies’ walk. It will be a great opportunity to socialise and meet new mums. We will be setting off from school at 10.00am, and the walk will be 9-10 miles including a lunch stop in Ilkley and a couple of very important refreshment stops! For those who don’t wish to walk as far, there will be options to hop on the train to meet at the next venue.
Tickets cost £15 per person (which includes lunch). If you would like to get your hands on a ticket then please contact Helen Dixon or Rachel Holder in the KS2 playground or Helen Parkin or Cathy Wallace in the KS1 playground.
Alternatively, if you’re not in the playground you can still buy tickets by texting 07946 400279 (please include your name and how many tickets you require).
The Scarecrow Hunt and Summer Fayre take place this year on Saturday 4th July.
The theme for this year’s Scarecrow Hunt is Children’s Books. The hunt starts at 1pm from the school playground and should take 60-90 minutes to complete, with a great prize for the person or family that correctly identifies the most scarecrows. If you’d like to get into character, Mrs Wilson will be judging the best children’s book fancy dress at the Fayre.
The Summer Fayre runs from 2 to 4.30pm, with all the traditional stalls and games you would expect, including coconut shy, tombola, penalty shoot out and more, plus races for children and adults. For refreshments, we will have a bar and barbecue plus cream teas and ice cream too.
We’ve had an incredible start to the 2014/15 year. Our inaugural Golf Day raised an amazing £2,300 and the Christmas Fayre raised an absolutely astonishing £2,700. Thank you to everyone who gave their time to organise, run and attend these events. We really appreciate your continued support.
Our fundraising focus this year is to help provide outdoor play facilities, and develop the pond and woodland area. You may have already seen work has started on the pond which we’re very excited to see. Why not follow us on Facebook or Twitter to keep up with developments?
Did you know that FoMPS raised over £7,500 for our school in 2013/14? The Christmas Fayre raised over £2,400, and the Yomp raised over £1,000. We also introduced some new ideas including Family Night, the Penny Push and the Tour de Menston which together raised nearly £1,300.
We donated over £3,300 towards installation of new CleverTouch LED screens, plus we helped to fund the KS2 band, Year 5 and 6 Team Building Days and of course the Year 6 Leavers’ Party.
Thanks to everyone who organised, took part in or attended our events last year. Your help and support is always appreciated.
This year will be bigger than ever. As well as being our year to organise the Summer Fayre and Scarecrow Hunt, we also have a fantastic new event in the FoMPS Golf Day, plus more events to be announced.
Our focus this year is to raise funds for:
Outdoor learning and play equipment
Redevelopment of the pond
Developing woodland areas in the school grounds
Restocking the playpod with recycled materials for imaginative and creative play
Our AGM is an ideal opportunity for you to get involved with FoMPS. It’s not a formal affair, just a chance to reflect on performance last year, plan for the year ahead and of course welcome new members.
This year’s AGM is this coming Monday, 6th October, at 8pm at the Menstone Club, Farnley Road. All are welcome and we’d love to see you there.
Tour De Menston: Saturday 28th June 10:00 to 12:00.
Thank you to those of you who have already returned your slips, please return any remaining slips by Friday 20th June.
Don’t forget to get as many sponsors as possible so the money raised can be used to support lunchtime play, including restocking the play pod.
Whilst children will remain the responsibility of the parent during the event there will be marshals around the course to help the children and point them in the right direction, so it is not necessary for parents to cycle the course with their child.
Please join us on Saturday 28th June at 10.00am for a sponsored cycle ride around the paths of High Royds, to celebrate the Grand Départ coming to Yorkshire. Parents/carers and children are welcome.
Bring a picnic, and after the ride find a spot in Menston Park and enjoy the sunshine (fingers crossed!).
There are two routes to choose from. You can ride either route or a combination of both (please note that access to Route B requires crossing High Royds Drive). The start and finish point is on Menston Drive (entrance through the fence at the roundabout on Bingley Road).
